This project involved the upgrading of building including new air conditioning to allow the use of the space for weddings and other such functions. The challenge for the design team was to achieve a functional air conditioning system without disturbing the original heritage building fabric.

Through a detailed conceptual phase, the final approach was to utilise high level ceiling roses to act as a supply air diffuser for introduction of outside air for ventilation purposes. The high ventilation rate required for high occupancy times is introduced using two heat exchangers in parallel which were accommodated within a dedicated plantroom connected to one split ducted outside air conditioning unit. Comfort control is then provided by a separate system of floor mounted console air conditioning units.
The resultant “hybrid” system provides an optimum combination of air quality, temperature and comfort control, energy efficiency, capital cost, acoustics and minimal impact on the building fabric. |
