The new Data Centre houses the newly acquired Corvus Supercomputer. Lucid were responsible for the Building Works, Electrical, Mechanical and Fire Services design.
The project included the following main items:

  • New space for Corvus Supercomputer
  • New dedicated electricity supply
  • Raised Computer floor
  • Building works
  • N+1 data quality air conditioning
  • VESDA and dry-pipe sprinkler systems

Corvus was installed in May 2007. Corvus is an SGI Altix XE1300, with 69 nodes, each with two Intel quad-core processors.

At the time of installation, Corvus was the third fastest computer in Australia, with a ranking of 421 in the June 2007 Top 500 list from its result of 4.468 TFlops.

Corvus is used for a variety of applications including computational physics, chemistry, bioinformatics, engineering and applied mathematics.
