The new Data Centre houses the newly acquired Corvus Supercomputer. Lucid were responsible for the Building Works, Electrical, Mechanical and Fire Services design.
The project included the following main items:
- Roof within ceiling void to minimise water ingress from upper floors
- New space for Corvus Supercomputer
- New dedicated electricity supply
- Raised Computer floor
- Building works
- N+1 data quality air conditioning
- VESDA and dry-pipe sprinkler systems
Corvus was installed in May 2007. Corvus is an SGI Altix XE1300, with 69 nodes, each with two Intel quad-core processors.
At the time of installation, Corvus was the third fastest computer in Australia, with a ranking of 421 in the June 2007 Top 500 list from its result of 4.468 TFlops.
Corvus is used for a variety of applications including computational physics, chemistry, bioinformatics, engineering and applied mathematics.
