| Although insufficient project funds were available, Lucid were able to push the boundaries and create a vision for what is achievable for future ESD projects associated with the City of Salisbury Council.
The report details how the once restaurant, come cafe and ESD education centre could have achieved a remarkably energy efficient building. Energy efficient design principles included tri-generation incorporating a gas fired generator coupled to an absorption chiller and cooling tower. On site power generation minimised electrical power reticulation losses and provides a free source of waste heat for use by the absorption chiller.
Double glazing and additional shading devices were designed to minimise the building fabric heating and cooling loads. Underfloor air distribution used in combination with economy cycle operation, night purging and a thermal heat recovery unit further reduced the energy consumption of the air conditioning systems.
The above systems together with energy efficient lighting systems helped to reduce the annual predicted running costs associated with air conditioning from 50% to around 30% for the total building. |
